EWCSD Schools Closed from March 16th - April 3rd

Dear EWCSD Community-

As I mentioned in yesterday’s communication we find ourselves in a rapidly changing situation which we are constantly monitoring. After careful consideration, and lengthy consultation with our Board of Education, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to officially close each of our schools beginning Monday, March 16th through April 3rd. Please rest assured that in addition to a vigilant focus on protecting the health and safety of our entire community we are committed to providing all of our staff and families with timely and accurate information. We will be sending out information to our staff and families on an on-going basis as new information comes to light.

Continuity of Education
Our goal during this trying time is to minimize the disruption to our students' academic progress. To that end, we will be providing lessons in the following ways:

  • Kindergarten through 5th Grade students will be receiving packets today. They will additionally be bringing three textbooks home to support their instruction.
  • Middle School students will be given assignments using Google Classroom, On-Line Textbooks and individual teacher websites as needed.
  • If you are in need of a Hot Spot to access the Internet please contact 562-907-5931

Meals for Families
In order to ensure that our families have access to our breakfast and lunch programs, we will be providing breakfast from 7:30AM-8:30AM and lunch from 11:30AM-12:30PM at Evergreen, Hillview, Laurel and Mulberry. You do not need to attend these schools to obtain a meal. This will be a drive-up/walk-up process where parents do not need to exit their vehicles, but your children must be with you to receive the meal. This service will be provided from March 16th through April 3rd, Monday-Friday.

Facilities
Our wonderful Maintenance and Operations staff will be using this three week closure to conduct a thorough disinfection and sanitization of all classrooms, libraries, computer labs, cafeterias, etc. This will help ensure an even healthier and safe environment once our students and staff return.

As always, both the Board of Education and I want to thank you for the patience, care and support you have provided to our entire community. Given that this is an ever changing landscape we have created a specific page on our website to provide updates and information as we receive it. Simply go to ewcsd.org and you will be greeted with a pop-up box asking you if you want to read more about our response to this growing concern.

Sincerely,

Marc Patterson
Superintendent
